JNTU-Sulthanpur students protest alleged ragging, block NH-161

Second-year students of JNTU-Sulthanpur in Sangareddy staged a protest alleging harassment and ragging by third-year students. The students blocked NH-161, demanding action against those responsible and urging the police and management to curb ragging on the campus.

Sangareddy: Second-year B.Tech students staged a protest at JNTU-Sulthanpur in Sangareddy district, accusing third-year students of harassing them in the name of ragging.

Even though the victims complained to the management, the students alleged that the management failed to act against those responsible for the incident. Second-year EEE student Ruthvik, who is also a member of the college anti-ragging committee, was allegedly being harassed by his seniors for a few days.

Ruthvik, who sustained an injury to his neck, was admitted to a hospital. While speaking to the Pulkal police, who reached the spot, the students complained that the accused had even threatened to kill them. They further alleged that the accused were ready to pay Rs 10 lakh as ex gratia if the students did not follow their directions on the campus.

They further alleged that the accused threatened to attack them in the principal’s chambers while security personnel remained mute spectators.

The students blocked NH-161, demanding immediate action against the accused. They urged the police and management to make the institute free from ragging activities. Traffic came to a standstill following the students’ rasta-roko.

The incident created a sensation on the campus and sparked a debate among students and faculty.
