Adilabad: Former minister Jogu Ramanna who staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate here on Monday alleged that the local MLA Payal Shankar and MP G Nagesh were ignoring the problems of farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramanna asked whether Shankar and Nagesh were able to respond to the challenges of the farmers. He opined that BJP MLAs and MPs were following in the footsteps of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He said that both State and Centre were not procuring various grains, causing inconvenience to growers.

The former minister further said that 1,300 quintals of soybean produce was kept ready to be procured in agriculture market yards. He wanted Collector Rajarshi Shah to hold consultations with farmers and to take steps to sell the grains from the farmers. He regretted that the Collector was insensitive to soy farmers who were struggling to sell the oilseeds.

Ramanna stated that farmers were facing hardships in buying urea even after booking slots. He declared that he was ready to sacrifice his life for farmers if the government did not respond to their challenges. He said that an action plan would be chalked to launch a series of protests against the government.

He requested distressed farmers not to die by suicide. He wanted them to take part in a day-long bandh to be observed in the district in protest against the government’s negligence in resolving the problems of the farmers on Tuesday. He added that they would obstruct Revanth Reddy if he toured the district on January 8.
