Sangareddy: Necessity is the mother of all invention. The adage proved right in Yeddu Mailaram village where the Gram Panchayat has come up with a novel idea of extending cash incentives to students of Class 6 who join the English medium wing in the government school. The reason? The school stands to lose recognition for the English medium wing, if there is no required strength.
Hence the village Sarpanch, K Malla Reddy came up with the novel idea of extending cash incentives to the students who are willing to join the English medium wing in Zilla Parishad High School. And the ploy worked. Around 15 students, who were hitherto enrolled in private schools, joined the ZP High School and they were given the promised cash incentive — Rs 1,000 to each student. The money was handed over by none other than the additional Collector Rajarshi Shah at a programme organised on the school premises on Tuesday.
The School headmaster told ‘Telangana Today’ that they wanted to retain the English medium wing recognition granted this year. When the parents were not interested to join their wards in the school, they thought it would be difficult to retain the tag due to the lack of a minimum number of admissions. When they took up the issue with the Sarpanch, he came up with the novel idea.
Besides, carrying out a door-to-door campaign, Bhaskar said that the Sarpanch has assured to extend cash incentive. Since the local Government Primary School was already having English medium, 19 students from primary school joined in Class 6. The total strength touched 34 in Class 6 now, the headmaster said.
Following their door-to-door campaign, the Primary School headmaster Janardhan said that they had got 82 new admissions this year in addition to the previous year’s 70. The teachers said that the strength in these schools has been steadily increasing with constant support from Grama Panchayath. However, Malla Reddy said that the school is getting more admissions because it has some wonderful teachers who were working with commitment.
