Hyderabad: A journalist with an English news web portal, who was covering the students’ protests on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus, was reportedly detained by the police here on Sunday.
The journalist was covering the students’ protest against bulldozers that arrived at the university’s east campus to clear the 400 acres of forested land, which has been put up for auction by the State government.
Calling out police action on the journalist, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the draconian police overreach in Telangana was alarming.
In an X post, Rao said “Journalists are being detained & dissenting voices arrested. This blatant suppression of free speech & expression is unacceptable. And @RahulGandhi goes to town preaching about democracy and free speech. The double standards are beyond sickening”.
BRS leader Dr Manne Krishank also condemned the journalist’s detention and demanded his immediate release.
