Hyderabad: BRS working president K T Rama Rao has condemned the arrest of former sarpanches who attempted to stage protests at the Telangana Secretariat demanding payment of pending bills.
He questioned whether the Congress government considered arrests as the answer to the rightful demands of sarpanches.
“It is heartbreaking to see former sarpanches in tears outside the Secretariat. The government’s insensitivity is appalling. It must change its approach immediately,” he said.
In a statement, Rama Rao reminded the government that these former sarpanches had worked with dedication for the comprehensive development of villages for the last five years.
“Is this how the Congress government treats those who toiled for Telangana’s rural progress?” he asked, demanding immediate release of all pending dues.
He accused the government of prioritising payments to corporate entities and contractors while neglecting former sarpanches.
“Funds are being released to big players for commissions, but sarpanches are ignored because they don’t offer kickbacks,” he remarked.
He demanded that the State government clear the pending bills without delay setting aside political discrimination.
