Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy said the works on the Kalwakurthy-Nandyal National Highway via Somasila project were likely to commence in June or July this year.

It was an important route as it would cut down the distance to reach Tirupati from Hyderabad by over 45 kms, he said, adding that it would also reduce the distance to reach Nandyal from Kolhapur.

Replying to TRS MLA Jaipal Yadav during question hour in the Assembly here on Thursday, Prashanth Reddy said of the total 167 kms, 85 kms and 1.5 km bridge over River Krishna, would be developed in Telangana limits and the remaining distance road would be developed in Andhra Pradesh limits.

Towards this, Rs.600 crore would be spent for the highway development in Telangana limits, he said, adding tenders would be floated next month for finalizing the agency.

For executing the project, only 20 per cent of land acquisition was required. Already, Nagarkurnool district administration has appointed a Land Acquisition Officer for expediting works, he said.

The Minister also said NHAI Regional Office has sent proposals to New Delhi to appoint a consultant for widening the Kalwakurthy – Hyderabad national highway from three lanes to four lanes.
