Karimnagar: Local MLA Gangula Kamalakar on Friday warned of taking out a padayatra from Rekurthy to the State Secretariat in Hyderabad if the government failed to remove Rekurthy lands from the prohibited list under Section 22(A).

The MLA said he, along with 1,000 to 2,000 landowners affected by the issue, would undertake the padayatra to the Secretariat and seek an appointment with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Kamalakar made the remarks after having darshan of Sammakka Sarakka at Rekurthy. On the occasion, he also inspected arrangements for the biennial jatara and laid the foundation stone for road works.

Later, speaking to reporters, the MLA said around 1,000 to 2,000 residents of Rekurthy were facing severe hardship as they were unable to sell their lands or obtain bank loans since the properties were included in the prohibited lands list under Section 22(A).

He said representations had been submitted to District Collector Pamela Satpathy, who had assured that the issue would be brought to the notice of the State government.

Warning of intensified agitation, Kamalakar said that if the government failed to take a decision before the municipal elections, he, along with the affected land owners, would take out a padayatra to the Secretariat.
