Kancha Gachibowli land issue: Telangana police resort to lathi charge as UoH students, faculty protest land clearing
Initially, a scuffle broke out between students and the police, who had deployed in large numbers and barricaded the east campus to prevent access to the area where excavators were clearing the forested land. As students attempted to breach the barricades, they raised slogans such as ‘Police go back,’ ‘Awaaz Do Hum Ek Hain,’ and ‘Ladenge Jeetenge.’

Hyderabad: Telangana police lathicharged University of Hyderabad (UoH) students and faculty members as they intensified protests against the clearing and auctioning of biodiversity rich land in Kancha Gachibowli on the UoH campus here on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when the University of Hyderabad Teachers Association took out a rally from Ambedkar Auditorium to university east campus in solidarity with the protesting students.
Initially, scuffle ensued between students and police who deployed in large numbers barricaded the east campus where the excavators are clearing the forested land. Students raised slogans – ‘police go back’, ‘Awaaz Do Hum Ek Hain’, ‘Ladenge Jeetange’ – as they tried to go past the barricades.
Later, the police resorted to lathicharge on students and faculty.
Meanwhile, the UoH Students Union that called for an indefinite strike at the administration building staged a protest all through Tuesday night. The protesters brought their mattresses and slept at the administration building.
According to students, the university registrar would hold talks with students on the land issue on Wednesday afternoon.
