Karimnagar: Twenty-six students fell ill due to suspected food poisoning at Government Primary School in Jammikunta on Monday.

The students complained of vomiting and other health issues after eating eggs served for lunch under the mid-day meal programme. A total of 71 students had lunch at the primary school, functioning on the premises of Government Girls High School. Of them, 26 developed health problems. Students said a foul smell was emanating from the eggs while they were eating them.

Staff rushed the affected students to the local government hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. While 17 students were admitted, the others were treated and discharged. Their condition is stated to be stable.

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Huzurabad MLA Padi Koushik Reddy spoke to Collector Pamela Satpathy over phone and enquired about the incident. They directed her to ensure better treatment for the students.
