Karimnagar: BRS leaders and activists staged a protest against the illegal arrest of its MLAs in Hyderabad. BRS leaders led by Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar staged a dharna at NTR chowk here on Thursday evening. They raised slogans against the State government and demanded the withdrawal of the illegal cases registered against BRS legislators.

Kamalakar found fault with the Congress government for arresting MLAs for questioning the government. Legislators have lost the right to express their opinion in Telangana, he said, adding that such suppression was not witnessed even during the Emergency.

Since they have been elected by the public, MLAs have every right to question the government. If the government wants to arrest everybody who raise their voice against it and put them in jails, the existing jails would not be enough, he said.

Instead of arresting opposition MLAs, the government should concentrate on the implementation of promises made to the public during the time of elections, he said.
