Karimnagar: Many Congress leaders are in the competition for a ticket to the forthcoming Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad graduates MLC constituency elections.
Though the notification for the segment has not been released so far, some of the ticket aspirants have already started campaigning. Alphores Educational Institutions chairman Dr V Narender Reddy and Winners Publications owner Prasanna Harikrishna are extensively touring in the constituency besides organizing Atmeeya Sammelanams along with graduates.
While Narender Reddy has been maintaining relations with a few Congress party leaders for a long time, Prasanna Harikrishna is a close aide of Choppadandi MLA Medipally Satyam. Both the leaders are confident of getting a Congress ticket. Meanwhile, senior party leader and sitting MLC T Jeevan Reddy has also decided to contest in the MLC polls again. Jeevan Reddy, who has been silent after his recent outbursts against the party leadership, recently announced that he was also in the fray.
Velichala Rajender Rao, who was defeated in the recent Lok Sabha polls from the Karimnagar parliament segment, and former MLC R Satyanarayana, are also reportedly trying for the party ticket. As he had not expressed his opinion on contesting the MLC polls, party leaders thought that Jeevan Reddy may not contest in the MLC election again. However, proving them wrong, he announced his decision a few days ago.
Though the party was not in power, Jeevan Reddy won the MLC seat in the 2019 polls boosting the party cadre in north Telangana. However he was defeated in the 2023 assembly elections from Jagtial constituency by BRS candidate Dr Sanjay Kumar, whose defection to the Congress later was strongly opposed by Jeevan Reddy. He had also raised his voice against the party when his close aide Ganga Reddy was murdered. However, he has reportedly requested the State leadership to give him another opportunity to contest in the MLC polls.
Party strategist Sunil Kanugolu’s teams, which reportedly conducted a survey in the segment, are learned to have shortlisted the names of Narender Reddy and Prasanna Harikrishna, according to party sources.
Surprisingly, the TPCC, which conducted a meeting with public representatives and important leaders from the constituency recently, is said to have proposed Jeevan Reddy’s name to the party high command.
