Karimnagar: CPI activists staged a protest at the District Collectorate demanding that the State government protect the government lands.
CPI workers led by State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy took out a huge rally from the CPI office to Collectorate where they staged the protest demonstration.
There was a bit of jostling between CPI activists and police when the former tried to forcefully enter the collectorate. Later, the police arrested Venkat Reddy, district secretary Ponaganti Kedari and others and shifted them to the police training center.
Speaking to the media, Venkat Reddy said about 16,000 acres of assigned, buffer zone, endowment, wakf lands and Inam lands were occupied by public representatives and political leaders.
He wanted the government to conduct an inquiry into illegal land grabbing, and implement GO 13. The CPI leader also wanted the government to withdraw its decision to auction government lands and implement its promise of distributing three acres of land to Dalits.
