Karimnagar: 130th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was celebrated on a grand scale in the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

Public representatives, political leaders, government officials and others paid floral tributes to Ambedkar by garlanding his statues and portraits across the district.

BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar along with Zilla Parishad chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya participated in celebrations held in front of the district court in Karimnagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar opined that Ambedkar, one of the intellectuals in the world, was proud of the nation. Ambedkar was not belonging to a particular caste or religion; he was the property of the entire country, he said.

Separate Telangana State was formed based on the article (3) of Indian Constitution drafted by Ambedkar-led Committee. Telangana government was taking forward the aspirations of the visionary leader, he informed and emphasised the need to go ahead by eradicating untouchability, educating everybody, developing downtrodden sections.

ZP chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya said Ambedkar worked for the upliftment of down-trodden sections besides equal justice to all.

MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, District Collector K Shashanka, Additional Collector GV Shyamprasad Lal, Municipal Commissioner Valluru Kranthi and others participated in the programme.
