Karimnagar: Tense scenes unfolded at Manakondur mandal headquarters on Thursday as Congress and BRS workers raised slogans against each other, leading to a brief confrontation.
The situation was brought under control by the police, who intervened and convinced both groups to disperse peacefully.
The BRS had planned to stage a dharna at Manakondur, alleging irregularities in the sanction of Indiramma housing scheme. Anticipating the protest, a large number of Congress activists also gathered at the location to counter the demonstration.
When Congress workers attempted to reach the dharna site, police stopped them and sent them back. Despite this, both Congress and BRS cadres raised slogans, escalating tensions briefly.
With possible trouble anticipated, the police had deployed a large contingent in advance to maintain law and order.
