Karimnagar: Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar stated that plans were afoot to develop Karimnagar town as an international-level tourism spot. To fulfill the dreams of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the Manair River Front project is going to be completed with international standards and a detailed project report is being prepared in this regard, he said.
The Minister conducted a high-level meeting with Tourism, Irrigation, Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, and Revenue department officials at Jalasoudha in Hyderabad on Tuesday, to discuss the final design of the retaining wall of the Manair river banks.
Kamalakar discussed various issues including the design of retaining wall, water fountains, boating points, cottages, and other beautification works with tourism officials. Issues pertaining to width and depth of riverfront and ongoing works of river bed were discussed with irrigation officials. Land acquisition issues were discussed with Revenue officials at the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar said Lower Manair Dam, which is located adjacent to the town, was a great asset to Karimnagar city. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to develop a riverfront project downstream of LMD. Local people, who usually discuss famous tourism attractions of foreign countries, are going to see a wonderful riverfront soon in the town itself.
As part of the project, the State government has already issued orders by releasing Rs 310.464 crore to construct a four-kilometre distance retaining wall from LMD to the downstream. A cable bridge and check dams were already constructed by spending Rs 190 and Rs 80 crore respectively.
Irrigation officials informed the Minister that the works of the detailed project report (DPR) were in the final stage and DPR would be submitted to the government soon. Moreover, works of the riverfront were going on a brisk note since officials of all departments were working with coordination, officials explained to the Minister through powerpoint presentation.
Kamalakar instructed officials to finalise the design of the retaining wall and DPR within one week and attend the meeting.
