Hyderabad: Over 200 property owners from Karkhana and adjoining areas in Secunderabad Cantonment held a protest against the proposed widening of the road for the elevated corridor between Gymkhana Ground and ORR Junction (Shamirpet) on Rajiv Rahadari State Highway-1.
Telukunta Satish Gupta, chairman of the Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners Joint Action Committee (JAC), stated that all affected property owners are strongly opposing the parting of their land to widen the road from 100 to 200 feet. He highlighted that properties worth crores of rupees, which have been protected for over five decades in the Secunderabad Cantonment, would be severely affected.
Gupta demanded that the Congress government reduce the proposed road width from 200 feet to 100 feet, provide alternative commercial land within Hyderabad city for the displaced owners, and offer a government job to one eligible member from each affected family.
The JAC organised a rally from Bolarum to Lothukunta, where protestors raised slogans and displayed placards against the decision to widen the road. The protestors sat on the main road and held a demonstration, resulting in heavy traffic jams.
