Kasipet II mine mishap: Miners boycott duties protesting official negligence in Mancherial

Coal miners at Kasipet II Incline in Mancherial boycotted duties on Tuesday, alleging negligence and poor-quality material after a misfire of explosives injured four miners. The protest ended after officials assured safety measures and better material procurement.

Mancherial: Coal miners boycotted duties protesting negligence of officials and sub-standard material at Kasipet II Incline underground mine on Tuesday, following a misfire of explosives causing injuries to four miners.

Miners refrained from duties protesting the negligence of the officials and poor quality material supplied by the SCCL used in exploration of the coal. They alleged that the negligence and sub-standard material were often leading to mishaps. They wanted the officials to step up safety at worksites and to use quality material.

However, the miners quit their protest after the officials assured them preventive measures would be taken. The officials promised that paramount importance would be given to ensure safety of the miners, besides procuring quality material to excavate coal in underground mines.

On Monday, four miners, Ramesh, Raj Kumar, Kranthi and Srinivas received injuries after coal pieces pierced them due to the misfire of the explosives inside the mine. They were immediately shifted to a SCCL hospital in Ramakrishnapur. The medical condition of one of the injured was said to be serious.
