Kaushik Reddy denies threatening Kadiyam, seeks review of full Assembly video
BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy has denied allegations that he threatened fellow legislator Kadiyam Srihari during the Telangana Assembly's monsoon session and urged the Ethics Committee to review the complete video footage before arriving at a decision.
Hyderabad: BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy denied allegations that he threatened fellow legislator Kadiyam Srihari during the recent monsoon session of the Telangana Assembly and urged the Ethics Committee to examine the complete video footage before taking a decision.
In his explanation to the committee, Kaushik Reddy reportedly stated that he never told Kadiyam Srihari, “I will see your end,” nor did he make unethical or improper gestures towards him. He claimed the allegations were based on a misinterpretation of the video and that his gestures had been taken out of context.
He is learnt to have said the incident occurred amid an exchange of arguments, allegations and slogans in the House. He alleged that the complaint was politically motivated and filed by Congress members.
Sources said the BRS MLA objected to the video clipping submitted to the Ethics Committee, describing it as incomplete. He reportedly urged the panel to examine the full footage of the proceedings, including off-record video recordings, to understand the context of the incident. He also alleged that Kadiyam Srihari had made provocative gestures during the exchange.
He is said to have argued that his conduct could not be treated as unethical behaviour under Parliamentary Rules and said he had always respected fellow legislators. He sought a fair inquiry based on complete evidence rather than selective footage. He reportedly urged certain members on the Ethics Committee to recuse themselves and ensure an unbiased decision as they spoke on the floor, seeking action against him.
Meanwhile, the Ethics Committee meeting scheduled for October 8 has been postponed to October 13 due to unavoidable reasons. The committee had been examining the complaint over Kaushik Reddy’s conduct towards Kadiyam Srihari. The BRS MLA had earlier sought six weeks’ additional time to submit his explanation and requested the complete Assembly footage.
