Kaushik Reddy hails Supreme Court verdict upholding Danam Nagender’s disqualification

BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy hailed the Supreme Court decision upholding Danam Nagender’s disqualification, saying it vindicated the party’s legal battle against defections. He also questioned the BJP’s role and criticised the Congress government over Ganesh immersion arrangements.

Hyderabad: Hailing the Supreme Court’s decision upholding Danam Nagender’s disqualification, BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy declared that it vindicated the BRS legal battle against defections. He said the party’s legal cell had been fighting for the disqualification of defected MLAs since March 24, 2024.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Kaushik Reddy said the BRS approached the Speaker on March 18, 2024, after Danam joined the Congress, and moved the High Court on April 10. He said the High Court disqualified Nagender on September 18, 2026, and the Supreme Court had now upheld the decision. “It was a two-and-a-half-year fight by the BRS,” he said.

He questioned the BJP’s attempt to claim credit for the outcome. Stating that the Congress and BJP had colluded, he asked why the BJP had not fought for the disqualification of the other eight MLAs who switched parties. “The BJP also joined the case only after Danam Nagender’s disqualification became inevitable,” he added.

The BRS MLA said disqualification proceedings against the remaining defectors would also succeed, with by-elections soon to be held in those constituencies. He called the Supreme Court verdict a slap in the face of the Congress, especially Rahul Gandhi, who preaches about the Constitution and morals but practised none.

He also criticised the Congress government over Ganesh immersion arrangements, alleging that idols were being broken for immersion. He questioned Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar’s restrictions during the immersion processions and alleged that restrictions were being imposed on playing songs associated with former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He warned that the BRS would not spare Sajjanar after returning to power.
