Karimnagar: Expressing doubts over BC population statistics released by the State government, BRS MLC K Kavitha demanded the State government to make available the data for public review and give 15 days for those who had not registered their details. Besides putting the data for public review, the government should go for local body elections with 56.3 percent BC reservation including 46.3 BCs and 10 percent Muslims, she said.

On her way to Peddapalli on Monday, Kavitha halted at Karimnagar for a while on Monday and garlanded the statue of Jyothibha Phule at Kothirampur. Speaking to reporters, she expressed doubts over the BC population statistics, and said various BC organizations, intellectuals and political parties too were of the opinion that the survey was not properly on property. According to the 2011 census, there were 83 lakh houses and 3.50 crore population in Telangana. The number of houses increased to 1.3 crore and population to 3.68 crore in the Samagra Kutumba Survey done by the then BRS government in 2014. However, according to the current government’s survey, there were 1.15 crore houses and population of 3.70 crore. While the number of houses went up by 20 lakh within four years from 2011 to 2014, the last 10 years saw only 12 lakh houses, according to the latest survey. This indicated something wrong in the manner in which the survey was done.

According to National Health Mission statistics (done every two years), there were 50 to 52 percent BCs in the State. However, the State government has pegged the community population at 46.3 percent. Kavitha also expressed doubts over the increase in OC population to 15.3 percent (13.3 percent Hindus OCs and 2 percent Muslims OCs) from 8 percent in 2014. If the OC population went up, the population of BC, SC, STs and Minorities should also go up.

If Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was sincere, the Congress government should go for a public review and put the details of 3.50 crore people on the website for public scrutiny. It was also necessary to give another opportunity for the public, who had not registered their details, to record their details by conducting camps everywhere, she demanded, also stating that the local body elections should be held fulfilling the Congress’s Kamareddy declaration.
