Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on gross mismanagement of water resources in the State, BRS MLC K Kavitha on Wednesday emphasized the urgent need for an effective water resource management mechanism to support the farming community.
Speaking at the Legislative Council Media Point here on Wednesday, she said despite abundant rainfall and filled reservoirs, crops were withering due to inadequate water. Highlighting the adverse impact of diversion of water from Telangana’s shares to Andhra Pradesh, Kavitha urged immediate utilization of available water to alleviate the plight of farmers, especially during the summer months. She said the BRS remained committed to standing by the farming community and addressing their challenges.
Kavitha praised former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s initiatives, such as Mission Kakatiya, which revitalized water bodies, and the Kaleshwaram Project, aimed at ensuring water availability for agriculture. She raised concerns about Andhra Pradesh allegedly diverting 10,000 cusecs of water from the joint projects on Krishna river and criticised Congress leaders for their inaction.
