KBR Park flyovers to consume 20,000 metric tonnes of steel under H-CITI project

Seven steel flyovers planned around KBR Park under the H-CITI project are estimated to require 20,000 metric tonnes of steel. GHMC is exploring bulk procurement as excavation work progresses, with construction of the flyovers and underpasses expected to take two years.

Hyderabad: The steel flyovers that are to come up around KBR Park under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project are expected to have steel consumption in huge quantities.

As part of the H-CITI project to ease the traffic around the busy circle around the national park, the authorities have come up the proposal of seven flyovers and two underpasses. The works on these components have already commenced with huge pits dug up and the police coming up with one-way traffic movement to facilitate the construction expected to be completed in two years.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would be ordering the steel in bulk quantities to build the flyovers around KBR Park and estimates have suggested the steel consumption for seven steel flyovers to be a whopping 20,000 metric tonnes.

According to the GHMC officials, estimates were being worked out and enquiries with steel manufacturers who can supply such huge bulk were under consideration. Given the large quantities needed, the manufacturers would require advance orders.

The steel flyovers coming up here include a four-lane, first-level steel flyover from Jubilee Hills Check Post on Road No 45, taking off near Jubilee Hills Metro station and dropping at Mangat Rai Jewellers, a three-lane steel flyover from KBR Park entrance to Mugdha Junction on Jubilee Hills Road No 36, near Sagar Society traffic junction.

The other flyovers are a two-lane flyover running from Indo-American Cancer Hospital junction towards Maharaja Agrasen Island junction, and a two-lane unidirectional flyover connecting Film Nagar with Maharaja Agrasen Bhavan, carrying one-way traffic.

Also coming up are a two-lane unidirectional flyover from Road No 45 in Jubilee Hills, near Mayuri Food Court, to the Indian Petrol Pump and another two-lane unidirectional flyover from Jubilee Hills Check Post towards Durgam Cheruvu.

According to the officials, the excavation works were on for the flyovers and underpasses and with the traffic movement around the park showing signs of stabilising, the works would be taken up accordingly and completed as per the schedule.

* KBR Park Entrance Junction: 891 metres, 24 foundations

* Film Nagar Junction: 600 metres, 14 foundations

* Indo-American Cancer Hospital Junction: 540 metres, 8 foundations

* Maharaja Agrasen Junction: 590 metres, 12 foundations
