KBR Park one-way traffic system triggers confusion, snarls in Hyderabad
The new one-way traffic system around KBR Park caused confusion, congestion and frustration among Hyderabad commuters on Tuesday. Long detours, barricades and unfamiliar diversions led to traffic snarls at key junctions, particularly during peak hours between 8 am and 11 am.
Hyderabad: Confusion, frayed tempers and a struggle to find a way through the traffic maze marked the commencement of the new continuous one-way vehicular movement around the KBR Park on Tuesday morning.
The office-goers in particular were seen agitated at having to go round in the circle, and with confusion resulting in traffic snarls at several places, were frustrated at delays in reaching their workplaces. The gridlock triggered widespread outrage, with commuters slamming confusing traffic diversions. At KBR Junction, motorists expressed their ire, honking loudly following traffic diversions.
Commuters complained of severe congestion across key routes- – KBR Junction, Indo-American Cancer Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Island, Film Nagar and Jubilee Hills Check Post– with significant traffic building up rapidly. Delays affected peak-time travel from 8 am to 11 am.
Traffic police barricaded the Jubilee Hills Check Post traffic junction area and did not allow vehicles coming from Yousufguda and Secunderabad towards check post metro station, located about 200 metres away. Commuters had to take a long detour via KBR Junction, Indo-American Cancer Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Island, Film Nagar and then Jubilee Check Post.
Road users commuting daily from the cable bridge, Durgam Cheruvu and Madhapur and proceeding towards Film Nagar, Maharaja Agrasen Island and Indo-American Cancer Hospital were diverted towards Jubilee Hills check post. This resulted in arguments with traffic cops, leading to traffic jams in the area.
Towards the afternoon, the chaos reduced, though the confusion for first-time drivers continued. At several places, a major issue was taking the right lane to transit and take the arc at the junctions.
Commuter quotes with mugshots:
“I had to take an unnecessarily long detour for a two-minute journey to reach Madhapur. Traffic diversions at the check post area are meaningless and causing confusion”.
– Anup Reddy
Police should allow IT professionals who commute daily through the junction to reach Hitec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli and Manikonda, instead of forcing them on the longer route.”
– Rami Reddy, IT Professional
“I have been travelling from Yusufguda and going to Film Nagar for years, but now cops restricted and forced me to KBR junction, which resulted in unnecessary fuel consumption and time”
– K Raju
“I had to go towards Gachibowli and was made to take the route via KBR junction and stretch my commute and my travel time”
