KCR birthday celebrations begin early in Khammam

Khammam: Festivities marking Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s birthday began early in Khammam with planting of saplings taken up at Lakaram tank bund on Tuesday.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with popular Telugu cinema actor M Srikanth planted saplings at Lakaram Walker’s Paradise as a curtain raiser for the ‘Koti Vriksharchana’ initiative of Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar, aimed at planting one crore saplings in an hour to mark the Chief Minister’s birthday on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said Chandrashekhar Rao was one of the few personalities who thoroughly understood the importance of environmental protection by means of spreading greenery. “Planting one crore saplings on his birthday is a perfect gift to him,” he said.
The results of Haritha Haram programme, which the State government introduced six years ago, and ‘Green India Challenge’ introduced by Santosh Kumar three years ago, were now clearly visible. As many as 230 crore saplings have been planted since 2015 across the State, Ajay Kumar noted.
The Minister called upon the elected representatives and common public to participate actively in the ‘Koti Vrukshaarchana’. He wanted the people to plant saplings on a large scale across Khammam between 10 to 11 am on Wednesday to make the event a grand success and to honour the Chief Minister.
Actor Srikanth said Haritha Haram was a noble programme as its core objective was to increase green cover. Ajay Kumar, actors Srikanth and Shivaji Raja, TANA president Jayashekar Talluri extended advanced birthday wishes to the Chief Minister.
Later, Santhosh Kumar, in a tweet, thanked the minister and the actor for their wishes and for planting the saplings. SUDA Chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar and others were present.
