Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday called Muharram as a symbol of righteousness, truth and sacrifice. He said Muslims observed the occasion in remembrance of these enduring values.
In a message on the occasion, Chandrashekhar Rao said Telangana’s people celebrate the traditional ‘Peerla Panduga’ in a spirit of brotherhood that transcends caste and religious barriers.
He observed that the festival, which was marked across villages and cities with rituals like fire-walking, reflected the State’s composite Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb and stood as a symbol of communal harmony.
The former Chief Minister said the previous BRS government upheld secular values over the past decade and implemented several initiatives aimed at the welfare and empowerment of the Muslim community. Praying for the well-being of all sections of society, he reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the interests and welfare of minority communities.
