KCR condoles renowned sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar
Former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao mourned the death of Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Vanji Sutar, hailing the legendary sculptor’s contribution to Indian art and his iconic design of Hyderabad’s 125-foot Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue.

Hyderabad: K. Chandrashekhar Rao, former Chief Minister and president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi has expressed grief over the demise of Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Vanji Sutar, renowned sculptor who designed the iconic 125-foot statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Hyderabad. Ram V. Sutar, widely regarded as one of India’s greatest monumental sculptors, passed away due to age-related ailments.
In his condolence message, K Chandrashekhar Rao recalled Sutar’s extraordinary contributions to the field of sculpture, describing him as a “Kohinoor diamond” whose world-class talent brought life to statues of prominent figures. He particularly praised Sutar’s design of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 125-foot statue, constructed during the previous BRS government with global standards.
Sutar made it a lasting landmark in Telangana’s history that stands out as a source of inspiration. The former Chief Minister stated that availing Sutar’s services for the Ambedkar statue was a matter of immense pride for the state. He added that the sculptor would forever remain etched in the hearts of the people of Telangana. Calling Sutar’s passing an irreparable loss to the art of sculpture, he extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
