Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday extended Dasara greetings to the people of Telangana, remembering the festival’s significance in the State’s culture and traditions.
In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao said Dasara was celebrated to remember the triumph of good over evil. He said the festival reflected Telangana’s rich customs, including worshipping the Jammi (Shami) tree, sighting the auspicious palapitta (Indian roller), exchanging Jammi leaves as gold, greeting one another through Alai-Balai and seeking elders’ blessings.
He recalled that the previous BRS government declared the Jammi tree the State tree and the palapitta the State bird, recognising their significance in Telangana’s cultural life.
“The spirit of Vijayadashami, that righteousness ultimately triumphs despite hardships, inspired the Telangana statehood movement and the State’s decade-long progress,” he said.
Exuding confidence that people would overcome continuing challenges, Chandrashekhar Rao said the festival’s spirit could be realised by enabling ordinary people to succeed across sectors. He prayed for peace, prosperity and happiness in Telangana households.
