Mahabubnagar: Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao stressed on the need to improve sports infrastructure in rural areas to train and shape budding sports persons.
On Saturday, the Minister laid foundation for a multipurpose indoor stadium at the stadium complex here on Saturday. The indoor stadium is being constructed with a cost of Rs 10 crore.
The indoor stadium will be used to host national and international sports and games events. Badminton, volley ball, basketball and hand ball tournaments will be conducted, he said while addressing media persons.
The Minister said the Chief Minister wanted a sports policy for promotion of sports in the State. Telangana Government was developing sports infrastructure in all the district headquarters in the State for promotion of sports as a career among students, he said.
Apart from facilitating two per cent reservation under sports quota for sports persons, the Telangana Government was also extending reservation in education sector, he said.
Since 2014, the State Government has been focusing on development of sports in rural areas and identifying budding sports persons, he informed.
