Hyderabad: From the politics of hatred unleashed by the BJP across the country to the rank bad policies of the Narendra Modi government, from the moves to corporatize the power sector to the tall claims of ushering in a Rs 5 trillion economy by 2024, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday hauled the BJP administration at the Centre over the coals.
“The country will be ruined if we allow the BJP to continue with its misrule. There is an urgent need for all parties to come together to throw out the BJP,” the Chief Minister said, addressing the media at Pragathi Bhavan here.
Stating that he was in constant touch with various political leaders from non-BJP parties, the Chief Minister said there are serious efforts to come together to end the BJP rule. “These efforts will fructify soon and I can assure you that I will be playing a major role,” he said, adding that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had spoken to him. “I will also be visiting Mumbai soon to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, maybe in a couple of days,” he added.
Observing that the need of the hour was unity among all political forces, Chandrashekhar Rao said the single point agenda of the non-BJP parties should be to unseat the BJP and save the country from going to ruins. “It should not be about becoming the Prime Minister. There are several eminent political leaders in the country, but we can’t predict about what will happen in the future. Stopping the BJP misrule should be uppermost in the minds of all political leaders for now,” he said.
Asked whether he was willing to join hands with the Congress, he said the issue was not about forming alliance. “I can’t predict what the future holds. Once we achieve our objective, we can take up such issues. It is also not a question of reviving the Third Front. What is needed is a people’s front where the public is awakened and made aware of the blunders and misrule of the BJP,” he said.
On suggestions that he launch a new party at the national level, the Chief Minister said: “Why not, if the situation demands? I have the guts and have been in the political arena for four decades,” he said, adding that in 2019, he had met with several leaders from other political parties. “We discussed several issues and I also shared some literature with them. Unfortunately, things did not move in the direction we had planned and BJP came to power which has proved to be disastrous for the country now,” he said.
Hitting out at the BJP for throwing democratic values to the winds, Chandrashekhar Rao said the saffron party does not believe in democracy and cited the examples of Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Goa. “Why are they so power hungry? They usurped power through devious means instead of being patient and allowing other parties that had people’s mandate to rule,” he said, adding that in Karnataka, they are now promoting hatred among children.
Making a mockery of the BJP’s claim of ensuring a Rs 5 trillion economy by 2024, the Chief Minister said it was not rocket science that the economy grows through the compounding effect. “The economy will double in five years if growth is at 12 per cent and six years if the growth is at 11 per cent. This is something that even a street-corner businessman will explain to you. We don’t need a Prime Minister or a Finance Minister to tell us this. This same fact was also stated in Rajya Sabha by former Finance Minister M Chidambaram,” he said.
“This being said, what is the extra effort that the Modi government is making for India. Let them do something akin to China or Singapore that are witnessing rapid growth,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.
Lamenting that there was increasing unemployment under the BJP government, he said lakhs of industrial units are shutting shop. “Industrial production has been at abysmal levels. In September, 2021, it was 4.4 per cent that dropped to 4 per cent in October. In November, it was 1.4 per cent and a pathetic 0.4 per cent in December. “This is the level of industrial production in the country. Is this the Make in India or Aatmanibhar Bharat that Modi speaks about?” he asked.
