Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekhar Rao paid tributes to Mahatma Jyothirao Phule and recalled his services to the nation on his birth anniversary on Saturday.

He stated that Jyothirao Phule’s ideals and efforts in striving for welfare of all sections in socio-economic spheres remain relevant even today.

Describing Phule as a visionary, who worked to eliminate caste, class and gender inequalities and to ensure social justice, the BRS president lauded his role in women’s empowerment. He recalled how he had first educated his wife Savitribai Phule and went on to promote education for women despite strong resistance.

Recalling his government’s efforts to reflect Phule’s ideals, the BRS president highlighted several welfare measures implemented during the BRS tenure. Agriculture sector was strengthened through irrigation projects, free power supply, and schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima, he stated.

He added that support for traditional occupational groups through initiatives such as sheep distribution, fishery development, and assistance to weavers under “Nethanna ku Cheyutha” had helped Dalit and Bahujan communities gain economic stability, contributing to the revival of the rural economy.

K Chandrashekhar Rao said welfare measures like Aasara Pensions and BC Bandhu enabled economic progress among backward and marginalized communities. He also noted that residential educational institutions were established to provide quality education to BC students.

He further stated that land and funds were allocated in Hyderabad for the construction of Atmagourava Bhavanalu (community buildings) for different BC associations, aimed at supporting future generations.

Urging the State government to continue these initiatives, the BRS president stressed that such sustained efforts aligned with Phule’s ideals were essential to uphold the self-respect and progress of backward communities, and would be the true tribute to the reformer and visionary.
