Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday castigated the BJP government at the Centre for its decision to increase the prices of fertilisers, a move that will push the agriculture sector into a crisis and break the backbone of the farming community in the country.

The Chief Minister said he will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue to register his strong protest against the increase in prices of fertilisers.

Expressing his ire over the Central government’s move, he said the same BJP, which made tall promises that it would double farmers’ income by 2022, had now increased the prices of fertilisers to an all time high that would break the farming community’s back. “It is highly reprehensible that the Central government which promised to double the income of farmers took a U-turn and increased agriculture inputs expenditure. This shows that the BJP government is totally against the farmers and this has been proved beyond any doubt,” he said.

Stating that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the Central government policies and actions to make the lives of farmers miserable, Chandrashekhar Rao said decisions like installing meters to agriculture pump sets to collect the power charges, not linking NRGE with the farm sector, increasing fertilisers prices to an all time high and not purchasing paddy cultivated by farmers are draconian decisions of the BJP government at the Centre. “They have made farmers life difficult to survive. One should oppose such actions that will send farmers to their own fields as labourers,” he said.

The Chief Minister gave a clarion call to the people in Telangana and across the country to root out the BJP government which was weakening the rural economy, hereditary trades and playing havoc with the farm sector only to hand over agriculture sector to the Corporates.

The Chief Minister expressed anguish that the BJP government at the Centre had removed subsidies on fertilisers which had been in vogue for several decades. The situation has come to such a pass that the farmers have no option but to take up their plows and revolt against the Central government,” he said.

Chandrashekhar Rao urged the people to confront the BJP on the issue at every opportunity. He was categorical in stating that if the Central government fails to withdraw roll back the price hike on fertilisers, there will be a State-wide and countrywide agitation against the Central government. He also urged the farming community in the State to expose the BJP’s conspiracy and join the struggle to make the Centre withdraw the fertiliser price hike.
