Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday came out strongly against what he called a brazen attempt by A Revanth Reddy, N Chandrababu Naidu and Narendra Modi to undermine Telangana’s interests. Stating that the Congress government was neglecting farmers of Telangana while protecting interests of Andhra Pradesh, he called on the party ranks to step up the ground-level agitation against the anti-farmer governance and to protect Telangana’s farmers to avert an imminent agricultural crisis.

In a high-level meeting at his Erravelli residence on Tuesday, Chandrashekhar Rao reviewed the current agrarian situation with party working president KT Rama Rao, senior leaders T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy among others.

He emphasised the need for the party to initiate an uncompromised fight against the Congress government’s failure to prevent agricultural crisis and safeguard the farmers of the State.

Stating that the Congress government was sacrificing Telangana farmers’ interests to safeguard Andhra Pradesh and prioritising political equations over farmers’ welfare, he warned that the proposed Banakacherla project by the Andhra government must be stopped at all costs as it threatens Telangana’s irrigation needs.

“Our cadres must mobilise at the ground level to expose the government’s failure and protect Telangana’s water rights,” he told party leaders.

Chandrashekhar Rao criticised the State government for failing to operate the Kaleshwaram project pumps and supply water for irrigation, even as the Vanakalam (Kharif) sowing operations were coming to an end and for leaving reservoirs and ponds dry. He demanded that the government turn on the Kaleshwaram project pumps immediately and lift Godavari river water to fill all water bodies.

Expressing concern over a serious urea shortage during peak paddy sowing, he termed the Congress government’s negligence an unforgivable crime against farmers. Both the Congress and the BJP were indulging in a political blame game on the issue without any concern for farmers, he said.

Alleging that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was working in tandem with his AP counterpart and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect the interests of Andhra Pradesh, even as farmers here were facing an agrarian crisis, he called for a people-centric agitation against such moves.

He also called for party-affiliated organisations, including the party student wing BRSV, to intensify their movement against the conspiracies targeting Telangana.
