Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha hailed party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s tenure as a golden age for agriculture, crediting him with transforming farming in Telangana through a series of landmark initiatives.
She said under his leadership, the value of agricultural produce had increased by over Rs 70,000 crore in a decade, a feat acknowledged even by the Union Ministry of Statistics. “KCR did not just govern, he became a farmers’ family member in every sense,” she said.
In a statement, Kavitha attributed the success to key initiatives like Mission Kakatiya which restored defunct tanks, the Kaleshwaram project which supplied Godavari River water to barren lands, uninterrupted free power, timely supply of seeds and fertilisers, and direct farmer support schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima.
She also pointed out that the establishment of procurement centres in villages, regularisation of agricultural pumpsets on irrigation canals, cancellation of water cess and farm land taxation among others.
“Through investment support, irrigation, and procurement reforms, Chandrashekhar Rao made farming remunerative again when it was on the brink of collapse,” she added.
