Hyderabad: Marking the silver jubilee of the party’s formation, BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday unveiled historic TRS (now BRS) election banner from 2001, rekindling memories of the Telangana statehood struggle. The pink cloth banner, which symbolised TRS’ maiden electoral campaign, was preserved by former Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy and his team.

The TRS, founded on April 27, 2001, contested its first elections just two months later in the local body polls held on July 3, 2001. With the farmer-plough symbol, the party secured a major victory, winning 82 Zilla Parishad seats and hundreds of MPTCs. Sudarshan Reddy had contested and won as ZPTC from both Narsampet and Nallabelli. The triumph laid the foundation for TRS’ dominance in Telangana politics for the next 25 years. The BRS will be celebrating the silver jubilee on April 27 this year.
