Leaders of non-NDA parties to be invited for a meeting to be held in Hyderabad in December second week
Hyderabad: Declaring war against the BJP government at the Centre for its anti-people, anti-farmer and anti-labour policies, Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday announced that Hyderabad would be the epicentre of a movement to unite and bring together non-NDA parties onto one platform.
“Leaders of non-NDA parties, including Mamata Banerjee, HD Kumaraswamy, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati and MK Stalin, will be invited for a meeting to be held in the State capital in the second week of December to give shape and form to the national movement against the regressive BJP,” the Chief Minister said, addressing a joint meeting of the TRS Parliamentary and Legislature parties as well as GHMC division in-charges at Telangana Bhavan here, ahead of the corporation polls on December 1.
“I have already met the Chief Minister of West Bengal (Mamata Banerjee), Kerala (Pinarayi Vijayan), Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal), Odisha (Naveen Patnaik), DMK leader MK Stalin, former UP Chief Ministers and presidents of Samajwadi Party and BSP, Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawathi, respectively, NCP president Sharad Pawar, former Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, the Left parties and others. We decided to work together on the issue of fighting against the policies pursued by the BJP across the country. A meeting with all these leaders will be convened in Hyderabad in the second week of December where we will discuss a plan of action to take forward the movement across the country,” he said, adding: “We will stand by farmers, workers and the poor who are suffering due to the Centre’s policies.”
Putting the BJP government on notice, Chandrashekhar Rao said the Narendra Modi government had done nothing for the country in the past six and a half years and had, in fact, pushed it back with false propaganda and wrong policies. He felt the onus was on non-NDA parties to reverse the anti-people’s policies pursued by the Centre and the BJP in the wake of the Congress’ passive partisan politics. He emphasised the need to fight against the BJP government’s policies and the preparations of the TRS to lead the fight from the front.
“A different trend has now gripped the country’s politics. The BJP is propagating lies and making people believe in them as the truth. It has successfully transformed social media into an anti-social media platform to spread lies like wildfire. Instead of doing something for the people, the BJP leaders are only misleading them by provoking their emotions and damaging the credibility of those who are working for people or questioning them. The time has come to fight against this through awakening the people of this country,” the TRS president said.
The Chief Minister said the BJP-led Union government had done nothing for farmers, Dalits, Adivasis, workers and weaker sections. “When they are in a difficult situation, and particularly during elections, they rake up public sentiments by bringing in Pakistan, Kashmir and Pulwama for political gains. They also resort to divisive politics by creating religious unrest. They advertise themselves as champions fighting in the borders but fail to restrict China on various fronts,” he said, tearing into BJP’s false propaganda. “The BJP leadership came up with slogans like ‘Beti Padao, Beti Bachao’ but did nothing for girl children,” he pointed out.
Chandrashekhar Rao said the country’s development was hampered by the incompetent policies of the Congress and BJP governments that have been in power at the Centre for several decades now. He pointed out that despite a power generating capacity of over 4 lakh MW across the country, the country was consuming only 2.20 lakh MW and the remaining 2 lakh MW went untapped. He reiterated that despite availability of over 70,000 tmc of water through various resources in the country, people were still waiting for fresh water and irrigation facilities.
“States are fighting over river water sharing, but the Centre does nothing to resolve them by making optimum use of available water,” he added. The TRS president said the country’s GDP growth rate slowed down to minus 24 per cent and when calculated with the projected growth rate, it fell by a whopping 31 per cent. He stated that Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were far ahead of India in terms of GDP growth this year. “If the Modi government continues, Nepal is also likely to overtake India. China, with a lower GDP than India till 1980, is today the second largest economy in the world. But India is lagging behind due to the incompetence of the Central government, its callousness and lack of vision to formulate good policies,” he said.
Chandrashekhar Rao lashed out at the Modi government for the new Agricultural laws that were detrimental to the interest of farmers. “It’s sheer injustice to farmers. The Centre is also being unfair towards employees of various public sector companies through disinvestment. Attempts to gain political mileage by raking up religious sentiments will not do any good to the country,” he said, and also took on the Congress for its failure to fight against the BJP’s anti-people’s policies.
“Even 70 years after Independence, the situation has not changed in the country. Garibi Hatao remained a mere slogan. Both the Congress and the BJP proved to be Bade Bhai and Chote Bhai who failed to take the country in the right direction. Hence, the TRS is taking the initiative with a responsibility towards the country and the people, by making efforts to unite all the Opposition parties to fight the anti-people’s policies,” he said.
