Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao reiterated his commitment to provide Rs 10,000 financial relief to flood-affected families in Hyderabad and its surrounding municipalities after the GHMC elections. “The State government has spent over Rs 656 crore so far and is willing to release another Rs 300 crore for the benefit of the flood victims,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons after releasing the TRS Manifesto for GHMC elections at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Chandrashekhar Rao said he was moved by the plight of scores of citizens during the recent heavy rains and subsequent floods. He recalled that Ministers and elected representatives visited the victims who poured out their woes during the floods.
“With only couple of days left for Bathukamma festival, I took the initiative and asked the authorities to work out the modalities for distribution of Rs 10,000 as financial relief to each family notwithstanding their financial condition. The amount was meant to help the needy families during a natural calamity, but the Opposition parties lodged complaints, forcing the State Election Commission to stop the disbursement. We will resume the process immediately after the GHMC elections,” he declared.
About 6.56 lakh families have received the financial relief of Rs 10,000 each, costing the State exchequer Rs 656 crore. About two lakh applications have been submitted through Mee Seva centres subsequently and they will be taken up after the elections, he said.
