Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao raised concern over a conspiracy by the BJP-led Centre to reduce representation of the southern States in the Parliament under the pretext of delimitation. He warned that in case of injustice to southern States, BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will spearhead a new people’s movement against it.

“We will not accept any move that weakens the voice of our people,” he said.

Addressing party cadre at Peerzadiguda after inducting leaders from various political parties here on Wednesday, Rama Raosaid the Centre was sending mixed signals on increasing Lok Sabha and Assembly seats. He said despite repeated requests from the previous BRS government, the Centre denied delimitation in Telangana Assembly as per provisions in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The BRS working president also attacked the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to deliver on poll promises even after two-and-a-half years in power. He said the party made unrealistic assurances during elections but did not implement key welfare schemes. “People were promised financial support and benefits, but nothing has reached them,” he said.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao said the government was evading accountability instead of fulfilling commitments. He alleged that several welfare schemes introduced during the previous BRS regime had been discontinued. He also criticised delays in infrastructure works such as the Uppal flyover, blaming the Centre for inaction.

Pointing out rising civic issues, the BRS working president said only burglars and mosquitoes were happy in Hyderabad under the Congress regime, due to frequent power cuts and mosquito menace. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy of encouraging large-scale land encroachments through their kith and kin. He vowed that the party will continue its fight against both the Centre and the State government on issues affecting Telangana.

Rama Rao cited BRS performance in recent local body polls in Medchal-Malkajgiri, and hoped to repeat the success in upcoming elections in Peerzadiguda. He urged voters to back the party, warning that electing Congress candidates would lead to administrative setbacks in the region.
