Sanagreddy: There was a time a medical college in the erstwhile Medak district was a dream. Successive governments that ruled the erstwhile State since Independence could not set up even a single medical college. However, the previous BRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao changed this by laying the foundation for three medical colleges.
Keeping Chandrashekhar Rao’s promise during the elections, the BRS government first set up a medical college in Siddipet in 2018. The college now has 150 MBBS seats. The college also has 72 PG seats in 17 departments. It is also expected to get the nod for super speciality seats soon. The government medical college in Sangareddy was set up in 2021. The college has 150 MBBS seats. The college is expected to get permission for PG seats from 2025 onwards.
Chandrashekhar Rao also laid a foundation for the government medical college in Medak in 2023 as part of his vision to set up medical colleges in all 33 districts in the State. The vision was realised as the college started functioning on Thursday. The National Medical Council (NMC) had accorded permission for 50 seats for the Medak Medical College. However, the seats were expected to be increased to 150 seats by next year.
While the medical colleges allowed many local youth to pursue their dream career in medicine, the modern hospitals, attached to medical colleges, were providing the best treatment for the citizens living in and around the district headquarters. The poor and downtrodden could get free treatment at these medical college hospitals. The hospitals will be equipped with the best infrastructure facilities in the days to come.
