Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday visited Nallabelli in Warangal district to pay his respects to former Narsampet MLA and Telangana activist Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, who died recently after a brief illness. He also handed over cheques of Rs 2.25 crore towards financial assistance already announced for the bereaved family on behalf of the party.

Chandrashekhar Rao reached Nallabelli at around 2 pm and paid floral tributes to Sudarshan Reddy’s portrait before consoling his mother, wife and children. He assured the bereaved family that the BRS would stand by them. He spent more than an hour with the family, interacting with them and sharing his long association with the former MLA.

He said Sudarshan Reddy’s death was an irreparable loss to the party and the Narsampet constituency. He said the BRS would take over the former MLA’s responsibilities towards his family, party cadre and also his constituency.

Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar Rao’s visit drew an unusually large gathering of BRS leaders, workers, supporters and people from across the erstwhile Warangal district, with many turning up simply to catch a glimpse of the former Chief Minister during one of his rare public outings in recent times.

The turnout was particularly visible along the route to Nallabelli, with party workers and supporters gathering at several points to welcome him and express their solidarity.

At Raghunathpalli and on the outskirts of Alair, BRS leaders and workers gathered in large numbers to welcome Chandrashekhar Rao. At Kashireddypally, villagers stopped his convoy and brought local issues to his notice. They told him that although Rs 63 lakh had been sanctioned for construction of a kitchen shed at the village function hall, the work had not commenced. Chandrashekhar Rao assured them that he would speak to the officials concerned and seek early commencement of the work.

En route to Nallabelli, Chandrashekhar Rao stopped at several places, stepped out of his convoy and interacted with party workers and villagers. He asked them not to lose heart and assured them of his support in getting local issues resolved.

Police made elaborate security arrangements and restricted the number of vehicles entering Nallabelli village. However, the large gathering of leaders and workers, many of whom proceeded on foot, led to congestion as supporters surged towards the former Chief Minister’s vehicle. The vehicle was reportedly held up for around 30 minutes before police brought the situation under control.

The massive turnout turned Nallabelli and the route leading to it into a major gathering point for BRS cadres and supporters, indicating the continued mobilisation around the party chief.
