Keen to finish the season on a high, Avesh Khan

“I always try to bowl well and according to my field. But, they played good shots, because they only had 40 runs in 5 overs, and they were going to go, that's why I put that over. But when it's such a big game, you don't think about 240,” Avesh said in the post-match briefing after LSG defeated Gujarat Titans on Thursday night.

Hyderabad: “We play every match to win, unfortunately sometimes the result doesn’t come in your favour, but we were out of the tournament, we knew that. But, we thought that we will finish on a high note, we will try to do what we have been picked for, what we have come for, we came here to win, so we thought that we will finish on a high note,” Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan said.

“I always try to bowl well and according to my field. But, they played good shots, because they only had 40 runs in 5 overs, and they were going to go, that’s why I put that over. But when it’s such a big game, you don’t think about 240,” Avesh said in the post-match briefing after LSG defeated Gujarat Titans on Thursday night.

“We won with 33 runs, so we got a confidence booster, because we lost 5-6 matches continuously in the second half, but we got confidence after winning this match, so we will try to win the next match and finish the season on a high note,” he said.

“ I knew I had to put three overs for the team, I should focus more on that, instead of carrying the 20 runs, because if I carried that, my match could have been ruined. So I always had this mindset, that I should always try to leave what’s already there, what’s in my hand. Because I put the second-last over, I had this mindset that five fielders were going to come in, I knew that,’ he said in the post-match briefing after LSG defeated Gujarat Titans on Thursday night.

“I’ll execute my yorkers, I executed that, and I got five runs, and that’s where I won the match,” Avesh said. “You analyse the wicket a little, because the first innings has already happened, so the bowling plan is based on that,” he added.

“So in our time, the slower bouncer was being used, it was getting stuck, that was an advantage for us, because if there was no dew, the wicket would have been slower, and today there was no dew, so the wicket was slower, so we got the benefit,” said the pace bowler who took the crucial wickets of GT captain Shubman Gill and the hard-hitting Shahrukh Khan.

“It’s not that tough, because they don’t play fast bowlers, they play throw downs or spinners in nets, most of them don’t play, only Rishabh plays fast bowlers in nets, because as IPL goes on, the quality of the practice wickets also drops a little, because they don’t get time to prepare, because batsmen play continuous matches,” Avesh said.

“So they want us to play throw downs, and spinners for our confidence, so they do that more, instead of playing fast bowlers, because we do our own practice. Like Zaheer Bhai (Zaheer Khan), he tells us everything, so we focus more on that, as a bowling group, how well we can do,” he said.
