Hyderabad: Opener Keerthi Reddy’s 147-ball 100 not out (10×4) went in vain as Hyderabad suffered their third successive loss when they were defeated by Punjab by five wickets in the Elite Group C encounter in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Thanks to Keerthi’s century, Hyderabad reached 202/7 in 5 overs. Punjab chased down the target in 48.2 overs.

Hyderabad had a good start as skipper Ramya (23) and Keerthi put on 38 runs but off spinner Mehak Kesar struck crucial blows in the middle overs as Hyderabad struggled and were reduced to 95 for 6 in 30.4 overs. Keerthi and Yashashri (37) salvaged Hyderabad innings with 100 runs for the seventh wicket. Keerthi reached the three-figure in the last over.

Punjab too began shakily and were 67 for 4 in 18.2 overs, including the wicket of Test cricketer Taniya Bhatia. However, Praveen Khan (82) and Kanika Ahuja (46 not out) dashed Hyderabad’s hopes with a match-winning stand of 121 runs for the fifth wicket.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 202/7 in 50 overs (Keerthi Reddy 100, Yashasri 37; Mehak Kesar 3/31) lost to Punjab 206/5 in 48.2 overs (ParveenKhan 82, Kanika Ahuja 46 not out: Yashasri 3/60).
