Kothagudem: An incident of a Class 10 student studying at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Dummugudem in the district dying, allegedly by suicide, came to light.

The student Soyam Gitanjali was taken to her home at Kurvapalli Kothuru village of Aswapuram mandal by her parents on December 29 as Gurukul teachers were on strike. Last Wednesday, she consumed pesticide after she was reprimanded by her mother.

Gitanjali was taken to a private hospital in Bhadrachalam, where she died on Friday while undergoing treatment. The parents lamented that if the teachers had not gone on strike, their child would have lived.
