Khammam: Police arrested a doctor and two others while the health officials seized a private hospital here on Wednesday for allegedly administering fake Remdesivir injection to a Covid patient.
Use of fake Remdevisir to treat Covid came to light after the death of a patient, M Bhadraiah of Gollagudem area here. He was admitted to Balaji Chest Hospital with Covid on April 28, and was referred to another hospital on May 4 as his condition turned critical before he died on May 5.
Following the death of the patient his family members lodged a complaint with the district Covid Task Force and the District Collector alleging that a doctor at Balaji Chest Hospital administered duplicate Remdesivir injection to Bhadraiah.
An enquiry committee comprising the DM&HO, ACP (Task Force), IMA representative, Drug Controller probed into the matter and searched the hospital premises on Tuesday until late night hours. A few vials of fake Remdesivir were reportedly found at the hospital.
The doctor in question Guguloth Shyam Kumar, medical representative, Rambabu and the hospital compounder, Naveen were arrested by Khammam two-town police, where an FIR was booked against them by the Inspector of Police, Karunakar.
They were booked under IPC Section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 276 (Sale of drug as a different drug or preparation) , 304 (part II) (causing death by negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), 420 (cheating) and 109 (abetment of offence).
