Khammam: Farmers whose lands were being acquired for SCCL opencast (OC) mine at Rejarla in Sathupalli have demanded better compensation for their lands as per market rate.
A group of farmers led by Sathupalli MLA S Venkata Veeraiah met Collector VP Gautham here on Thursday and submitted a memorandum in support of their demand.
The MLA said the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) authorities were acquiring lands for the expansion of JVR OC-2 mine at Rejarla revenue village and the farmers should be provided better compensation.
Veeraiah noted that the lands for OC-2 expansion were being acquired under the Land Acquisition Act 2013 and the farmers were losing out due to land acquisition under that Act.
He wanted land acquisition to be done as per the market value of lands revised by Telangana government in July this year. As per the revised registration value for agricultural lands the land value at Rejarla was Rs 27,10,500 per acre.
About 175 farmers would suffer financially if the land acquisition was done under the Land Acquisition Act 2013 wherein the lands were valued at Rs 3,00,00 to 4,50,000 per acre, Veeraiah explained.
Similarly, the MLA wanted measures to ensure that Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima which the Telangana government was providing the farmers be applied to the farmers whose lands were acquired for the OC-2 expansion.
