Khammam: Ganesh immersion takes off on colourful note

Khammam:Ganesh immersion commenced on a colourful note in erstwhile Khammam district on Monday.
Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao along with district Collector Muzammil Khan and Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt flagged off the Ganesh Shobha Yatra at Gandhi Chowk in Khammam. The minister said all arrangements were made for peaceful Ganesh immersion in the district.
Police conducted breathalyser tests for the drivers who were driving vehicles carrying Ganesh idols to prevent drunk driving. Traffic police said that strict action would be taken against the drivers if they were found to have consumed alcohol.
In Kothagudem, SP B Rohith Raju informed that as many as 1,537 Ganesh idols were installed in the district. He visited Ganesh immersion points at river Godavari in Bhadrachalam and said that measures were to avoid any traffic disruption in crowded places as Ganesh idols from across the State would be brought to the town for immersion
