Khammam: Progressive Organisation of Women strongly condemned the Revanth Reddy government’s brutal attack on ASHA workers who were peacefully protesting in Hyderabad seeking to resolve their issues.
The POW state general secretary, Ch Shiromani and district vice president, Jhansi speaking at a meeting here on Tuesday said that before coming to power, the Congress party described women as ‘Mahalakshmi’ and promised to implement Mahalakshmi schemes, but neglected the promise.
They alleged that ASHA workers were handled by the police like razakars. The workers demanded to implement the Minimum Wage Act as per the Supreme Court orders. The State government instead of solving their problems acted oppressively.
The public would teach a fitting lesson to the Congress government, warned Shiromani. The Asha workers’ demand of Rs 18,000 monthly salary should immediately be fulfilled. If not, Asha workers across the State would be mobilised by the POW to take a large-scale agitation, she said.
The organisation’s district general secretary Avula Mangathai, leaders P Sobha, Lalita, Swathi Chaitanya, Pulamma and others were present.
