Minister P Ajay Kumar inaugurated a check dam built across Munneru stream in Khammam on Thursday.
Khammam: With an objective of retaining water upstream and for water harvesting, the State government proposed to construct check dams across streams in the State, informed Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Thursday.
Accompanied by ZP Chairman L Kamalraj and District Collector RV Karnan, the Minister inaugurated a newly constructed check dram across Munneru stream here. It was built at a cost of Rs 7.45 crore at Prakash Nagar.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the check dam would help to increase ground water table. It was proposed to build flood banks on either side of the check dams and to develop the area as a tourist spot and officials were told to submit the proposals regarding the work.
SUDA Chairman, B Vijay Kumar, Mayor, P Neeraja, her deputy Fatima Zohara and others were present.
