Khammam: The TSRTC bus stand being constructed at NSP area in Khammam will be a landmark in the city, asserted Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar. He along with District Collector R V Karnan and TSRTC officials inspected the ongoing construction works on Friday.
During a review meeting held with RTC, Roads and Buildings, and Electricity department officials, the Minister directed them to complete works by February 15.
Ajay Kumar informed that the new bus stand would be the biggest bus station after Hyderabad in the State, with a total of 30 platforms besides ample space to park the buses. Around 15 shops are being constructed in the bus stand complex for selling refreshments to passengers. The existing bus stand, built several years ago, has become congested with the increasing number of bus services and growing population. Hence, it was decided to build another RTC bus station with modern facilities for the convenience of the public.
“Works should be carried out on a war footing basis to complete all the pending works including fixing roof sheets, flooring, developing greenery and electric connections. The officials concerned should make coordinated efforts to meet the construction deadline,” the Minister said. He wanted the process of calling tenders for shops to be finished at the earliest and complete the construction by February 10. Separate parking places are being allotted for two-wheelers and autorickshaws, with the parking places and platforms marked with radium stickers for better visibility in the night, Ajay Kumar suggested.
Collector Karnan noted that steps would be taken to meet the deadlines by ensuring that the works would be executed round the clock while the RTC Executive Director A Purushotham Naik said Khammam bus station would have better facilities in comparison to MGBS bus station in Hyderabad.
Later, Ajay Kumar laid the foundation stone for development works worth Rs 1.23 crore in the city. Every municipal division in Khammam Municipal Corporation was developed with internal roads and side drains. He asked citizens not to litter roads and drains.
Zilla Parishad Chairman L Kamalraj, MLC B Lakshmi Narayana, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, Mayor G Papalal and others were present.
