Khammam: In a freak accident, an 18-month-old girl died after drowning in a water-filled bucket at Nayakangudem of Kusumanchi mandal in the district on Thursday.

The child, Preetika, accidentally fell into the bucket full of water upside down while playing in her house and died. Since everyone in the house was busy with their works, they failed to notice the child falling in the bucket, police said.

A pall of gloom descended on the village with the child’s death, which left her parents Kumar and Niharika in tears. The local police booked a case and are investigating the incident.
