Khammam: Trade unions representing contract and outsourcing municipal workers have served a strike notice to Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the union leaders demanded that the government should pay increased wages to the workers as per the 11th PRC recommendations and GO No 60. It was not the right practice to procrastinate without increasing the salaries of contract workers months after the release of the GO and the PRC announced by the State government, the leaders alleged.
Telangana State Municipal Staff and Outsourcing Workers Union (AITUC) State general secretary Manda Venkateshwarlu, CITU district president Tumma Vishnuvardhan, Telangana Progressive Municipal Workers Union (IFTU) State president G Ramaiah, INTUC city secretary Ch Viplav Kumar handing over a strike notice to KMC Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi.
Speaking to the media, AITUC State general secretary Manda Venkateshwarlu warned that the strike would be imminent if the wages were not increased. He said the workers were struggling to lead a normal life with meagre salaries. Venkateshwarlu lamented that though several petitions were submitted to the officials pertaining to the PRC issue, no one has come to the rescue of workers.
As there was no other option to get the demand fulfilled, the contract municipal workers decided to go on strike. At least now the government should respond to address their issues, the leaders said.
